Notre Dame DT Jerry Tillery ties school record for sacks in a game to earn Uplifting Athletes Rare Performance of the Week honors

TILLERYNotre Dame defensive tackle Jerry Tillery etched his name in the Fighting Irish football record books in a victory over Stanford.

Tillery, who started the season at nose tackle but has moved to the three-technique tackle, registered a school-record tying four sacks for the undefeated Fighting Irish.

In addition to the four sacks, Tillery also registered four tackles for a loss giving him eight stops behind the line of scrimmage in one game and earned the Uplifting Athletes Rare Performance of the Week.

The four sacks by Tillery ties the Notre Dame school record for a single game along with Justin Tuck (who did it twice) and Victor Abmiamiri.

Tillery’s eight tackles in the backfield totaled a loss of 40 yards for Stanford and spearheaded a Notre Dame defense that limited the Cardinal to 229 total yards on 51 offensive snaps.

The official line for Tillery against Stanford was six tackles (four solo, two assists), four sacks, four tackles for a loss, a forced fumble and two quarterback hurries.

No wonder he received the game ball in the lockerroom after the game from Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly.

Tillery is on pace to set the school single-season sack record set by Tuck in 2004 with 13.5. Tillery now has seven sacks and at least eight games remaining including a bowl game.
