Syracuse orchestrated one of the biggest upsets in school history as a part of weekend in college football where three of the previous Top 10 teams in the country went down. But the victory by the Orange over defending National Champion Clemson was the biggest of them all.
Orange starting quarterback Eric Dungey has been very good all season, but he saved his best overall performance in 2017 for the Tigers. Dungey accounted for 339 of Syracuse’s 440 yards of total offense and threw three touchdowns in the stunning 27-24 victory to claim the Week 7 Uplifting Athletes Rare Performance of the Week.
Dungey hung 27 points on a defense that nobody prior to last Friday night had figured out how to crack. The 6-4, 220-pound junior completed 20 of 32 passes for 278 yards with a trio of TD passes. He also rushed 21 times for 61 yards and his scramble for a first down late iced the improbable victory.
The native of Oregon is fifth in the nation in total offense, averaging 354.5 yards per game. He has accounted 17 touchdowns this season (nine pass, eight rush) and thrown for more than 2,000 yards while completing nearly 65 percent of his passes with only four interceptions.
