Syracuse new head coach Dino Babers notched his first signature victory with the Orange. Led by sophomore quarterback Eric Dungey, Syracuse upset nationally ranked Virginia Tech 31-17 at the Carrier Dome.
Dungey, who started eight games as a true freshman, accounted for 417 total yards and a pair of touchdowns to earn the Uplifting Athletes Player of the Week.
The Hokies defense had no answer for Dungey, who threw for 311 yards on 53 attempts and also rushed for 106 yards on 24 carries. He tossed a 58-yard TD pass and scored on a 1-yard TD plunge that put Syracuse ahead for good, 24-17, with 7:56 to play.
