Week No. 1 of the college football season featured some drama and several highly ranked teams from the preseason going down to defeat.
There was no more exciting and drama-filled game than the Notre Dame-Texas double overtime thriller won by the Longhorns 50-47.
Fighting Irish junior quarterback DeShone Kizer rallied Notre Dame from a 17-point deficit in the third quarter to force OT by throwing five touchdown passes and running for another score to earn the Uplifting Athletes Player of the Week award.
Kizer, who split time in the first half under center with Malik Zaire, accounted for 292 total yards rushing and passing – most of that coming in the second half. Part of the Notre Dame Chapter of Uplifting Athletes, Kizer has participated in each of the last two ND Chapter bowling events in support of the rare disease community.
