Player of the Week — Nate Scheelhaase, Illinois

Scheelhaase PhotoOne of the worst offenses in the country last season has made a dramatic turnaround in 2013.

University of Illinois senior quarterback and Chapter Vice President Nathan Scheelhaase looks like a new player under first-year Fighting Illini offensive coordinator Bill Cubit.

Scheelhaase threw for 278 yards and a career high five touchdowns in a 50-14 victory over Miami (Ohio) to earn Uplifting Athletes Player of the Week honors.

The victory has Illinois at 3-1 overall entering Big Ten play. Not only did Scheelhaase have a big outing against Miami (Ohio) by completing 19 of 24 passes, but his 12 touchdown passes in four games is only five shy of the career-high 17 he threw as a freshman.

Scheelhaase also leads the Big Ten in total offense, passing yards and passing efficiency. Congratulations Scheelhaase and the rest of the Illini for another great performance on Saturday!
