Greetings from Colorado Springs!
Your Colgate Raiders touched down in Colorado last night at 7pm Mountain Time. We had a short walk thru at a local high school and we were in bed by 10pm. This morning we had our pre game walk thru at Falcon Stadium on the USAFA campus, about 40 minutes away from our hotel. After practice, the entire travel party received a tour of the Air Force campus from several former football players and recent graduates of the academy.
The walls of the tunnel heading to the visitor’s locker room were lined with signs marked: “Warning Lack of Oxygen.” Despite their attempt of intimidation, we have remained composed and collective as we prepare for tomorrow’s battle.
Air Force is perennially among the top teams in the Mountain West Conference. Last year they lost to Rice in the Armed Forces Bowl to cap a 6-7 season. Last season we lost to Stony Brook 32-31, Stony Brook beat Army 23-3, and Army beat Air Force 41-21. If the transitive property is at all relative to the game of football, then the world should not be surprised when we beat these guys.
Sophomore running back, John Wilkins, secured his role as the starting tailback in the last few practices of camp. We anticipate the Falcons’ defense to key our QB, Gavin McCarney, which should allow for Johnny to have a big day on the ground.
Our defensive line is powered by senior ends Bobby Stup and Austin Dier who plan to contain the Falcons’ fancy run game.
This is an amazing opportunity for us and we are prepared to take full advantage of it. We expect to win in a shoot out. Please don’t be surprised when your Raiders take down a bowl caliber team.
