James DeCicco Blog: Colgate kick returner talks Bucknell, momentum and brotherly love

I’m excited to inform you that your Colgate Raiders have extended their win streak to 3 games after demolishing Georgetown, 57-35. Colgate’s 707 yards of total offense is a new school record and less than one hundred yards shy of the national FCS record held by Old Dominion.
Gavin McCarney and Jordan McCord continued to shine offensively combining for 7 touchdowns. After the game Coach  Dick Biddle said that he thinks McCarney is a Walter Payton Award candidate. Our offense is firing on all cylinders and we are showing no signs of slowing down.
We keep getting better each week and we are truly building something great. Unfortunately, Saturday’s victory came with a price. Preseason All-Patriot League right guard, Andrew Scarmardo, suffered a torn ACL late in the second half versus Georgetown. Scar’s presence will be missed but senior reserve, Harlan Abeshouse, embraced his new role as the starter. Harlan is a physical specimen and one heck of a football player who plans to fill in for Scar without skipping a beat.
We look to go 3-0 in the league and 5-3 on the year after this week’s contest versus the Bucknell Bison. The team travels to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania to take on the Bison Saturday at 1pm. Bucknell is 1-6 on the year and 0-3 in the league but their record does not reflect the talent they have. We can not take any plays off tomorrow and we need to play hard for four quarters. We intend to leave no doubt early on that they don’t belong on the same field as us. Offensively, our game plan remains the same, we plan to score early and often. Coach Biddle challenged the defense to shut down Bucknell’s offense and send a message to the rest of the league.
My brother had his first collegiate start and catch last week versus Colgate. Unfortunately, I had to watch the game from the sideline due to a bruised kidney suffered against Holy Cross. Thankfully, my boys picked up the W which earned me bragging rights at the family dinner table until the next time we play Georgetown. We plan to keep gaining momentum as we head into the final games of the  season.
Have a great weekend! Let’s go ‘Gate! G.A.T.A!!!!
