Week 2 Spotlight:
Name: Andrew Nairin
College: Colgate Raiders
Height, weight, class, position: 6-3, 229 pounds, junior, defensive end
High School: Chaminade College Prep, West Hills,California
About Andrew Nairin: He is the President of the Colgate Chapter of Uplifting Athletes. As a freshman, Nairin play in all 11 games for Colgate. Last season the defensive end played in all 10 game for the Raiders, recording 33 tackles, 6 tackles for a loss and registered 1.5 sacks.
As a player, what is your favorite part of game day you get to experience at your home stadium?
Nairin: My favorite part of game day is the fourth quarter. That’s Life by Frank Sinatra comes on and we all just get hyped to finish out the game.
What is your most memorable experience as a college football player?
Nairin: Playing at the Carrier Dome against Syracuse with all my family watching in the stands. I was in on the first kickoff return of the game and I laid some guy out.
What drove you to get involved with Uplifting Athletes, and what if anything has this experience done for you?
Nairin: I got into Uplifting Athletes because I knew it was a great cause and I wanted to give back to people less fortunate than me.
Facebook, Twitter or neither and why?
Nairin: I have a Facebook but I do not go on it that much. I really only use it to keep in touch with friends back home.
What is the toughest team you’ve faced or regularly play and what makes them so difficult?
Nairin: Lehigh it is always late in the season so the weather plays a factor and its just a really physical game always. They bring it every time we play them.
What is your chosen major, and what if anything have you used from that major as a contribution to your Uplifting Athletes Chapter?
Nairin: I’m a geography major and I haven’t really done anything in that regards to contribute to the Colgate chapter.
Besides one of your teammates, name a college football player you enjoy watching?
Nairin: I grew up a UCLA fan and I have a friend that plays defensive line there, Cassius Marsh. He’s just a flat out beast.
Who is your favorite NFL player and why?
Nairin: Clay Mathews. I worked out with him during the NFL lockout and he is such a hard worker and is so explosive.
What was or is the inspiration for the Rare Disease your Uplifting Athletes Chapter is raising money for to be part of the fight?
Nairin: We are continuing a five-year tradition of raising money for the rare disease Ependymoma.
What is your favorite road stadium to play in and why?
Nairin: I love playing at Fordham. We have a lot of alumni that live in the greater New York City area and becomes almost like a home game.
