Football Season Underway at Colgate

The moment we’ve all been waiting for is upon us. Nine months of relentless training is about to be put to the test tomorrow night when the Colgate Raiders take on the Albany Great Danes for the first game of the 2012 season. After surviving camp the revamped Raiders feel poised and confident heading into tomorrow’s contest. We’ve been preparing for Albany for over a week and we feel as though we put together a well rounded game plan to take down the reigning NEC champions.
As I mentioned in last week’s update, Jordan McCord will be the premier tailback this season but the game plan for Albany consists of several different skill players getting touches from the tailback position. Our coaches feel as though our inside and outside zone read plays will be effective early on versus Albany’s D, which will allow us to exploit their mediocre cornerback’s with play action passes later in the game. Our offensive line will be put to the test tomorrow night versus Albany’s experienced and talented defensive line. Coach Biddle told us yesterday that “this game will be won in the trenches, we don’t need any candy asses.”
Defensively, Albany will be starting a Sophomore quarterback who has yet to experience any college playing time. We’ve moved linebacker Austin Dier to the defensive line to add an athletic and powerful pass rush. The plan is to put as much pressure on the young quarterback as possible. We are extremely eager to take the field tomorrow night and you can expect to see big plays made by Colgate on both sides of the ball.
In other Colgate football news, former tailback Nate Eachus played in his final preseason game last night for the Kansas City Chiefs. He had a game high 102 yards on 18 carries. I believe the teams final cut is today and I’d like to wish Nate all the best on his pursuit of an NFL career. Attached is an article from the chiefs website.
I hope you all enjoy the weekend and stay tuned as your Raiders take on the Great Danes of Albany. G.A.T.A!!
