Greetings from Colgate!

This past week Colgate football completed our three week road trip with a tough loss at Towson. The first half concluded with a 14-3 score and numerous missed opportunities in the red zone. As the game neared its conclusion, the score became increasingly out of hand. Filling in for the injured Nate Eachus,  Zauhn Lewis offered a bright spot and ran for 144 yards in front of his home town crowd.

In preparation for Saturday’s game against Fordham, we have spent the week in full pads and intend to use a balanced attack against Fordham’s blitz heavy defense. Additionally, preseason All-American and Walter Payton award candidate, Nate Eachus returns to the line up. His rehab. has gone well and with the help of our training staff his fractured pelvis has healed to the point it no longer bothers him. Nate’s conditioning is the only element in question, but with Zauhn’s recent performances, he has proven to be a more than capable running back.

Despite a difficult three weeks, the team is excited for the upcoming schedule. Fordham is a tough Patriot League opponent who is ready to avenge last year’s blow out loss and a last second defeat the year before.

On a side note, Uplifting Athletes will be on site for their check presentation to the Collaborative Ependymoma Research Network. Uplifting Athletes is a national nonprofit organization that aligns college football and rare diseases. Each chapter is entirely run by current college football student athletes who choose a rare disease and execute a multifaceted fundraising event for that rare disease’s research organization. This year, our team chose the rare disease Ependymoma in honor of our offensive line coach who was diagnosed with the rare cancer of the central nervous system. His cancer is currently in remission. Our $15,000 dollar effort made for an amazing conclusion to my two year presidency.

I look forward to writing you next week after this Saturday’s home win over Fordham.

Together…We Are…Stronger!
